'The Bali here in refers to sacrificing one's own ignorance and ego, and not any poor living being.' The sacrifice of one's own ego and ignorance isn't enlightenment, it is merely an affirmation that you have crossed the FIRST important step in sadhana. Even this is a rarity these days by the way. It will feel like a big deal for those whose present lifetime isn't meant for any more spiritual progress. That's the limit.
Now this person should not argue with a level 100 sadhak, who has gone beyond a certain level in Sadhana, and is now operating on a different realm altogether. The urge to correct too, should not arise first of all, which is a good sign of ego unchecked, showing reversals in progress. It is akin to an LKG kiddo arguing with a Phd, on his core subject.
Bheema and Shri Anjaneya. Simmering is his own strengths (let's call it arrogance of Sadhana), Bheema walked the forests with great impunity, for he knew the chances of someone with greater strength was near impossible. One fine day, he chanced upon an aged monkey man, in deep slumber, his tail spread across Bheema's path. Bheema demands the monkey make way for his passage, immediately. The monkey man exclaims, 'feel free to make way for yourself, if you can move my tail.' Angered, Bheema jumps down on the tail, and with the strength of a 1000 elephants he engages in a futile attempt to move the tail of the old monkey man. The bemused monkey watching Bheema's strength ebb away, reveals himself to be Bhagwan Anjaneya. Bheema goes down in salutation, and learns his best lesson of humility in strength.
Now Bheema, was a level 100 sadhak of his era, and his sadhana of MahaDeva was considered to be of higher levels than that of his more sincere brother Arjuna. Yet, he got his humbling at the hands of Shiva Swaroopi, Hanuman ji.
As soon as a level 1 sadhak feels a little bit of tingling of the spiritual progress he must not make attempts to dictate or realign the paths at per his very limited understanding. Further spiritual progress is lost this way, as this is ego within sadhana.
Even if one were a level 100 sadhaka, probably not letting one's ego get in the way might help immensely, because instead of testing Bheema that way, if Anjaneya had delivered a punch upon Bheema, the entire plot of Mahabharata would be different today, and not all are as kind as Anjaneya. Understand that there is always someone of greater progress than you no matter what level you think you have reached.
Defeating personal ego, isn't akin to Bali, it is merely the first eligibility in sadhana, and actual Bali forms some of the highest levels in sadhana. Which you might not encounter in this birth.
